Physical Symptoms of Stress
You may just think of stress as a mental problem, but it can also affect your physical health. If you’re feeling uptight your body goes through some strains too, your heart rate will increase and you may start to sweat and feel very irritable.
A great way to reduce the physical symptoms of stress is by relaxing but that is not as easy as it sounds, just sitting and watching the TV is not relaxing! You need some time on your own with no distractions, lay down on your bed with some soothing music or even better some binaural beats. If you don`t know what these are you need to to check them out, the link below has some great beats and they have a FREE 10 min sample for you to try out.
Physical symptoms of stress are brought on by the “fight or flight” reaction, this reaction has been ingrained within our minds from when we were cave men. There were times when this mechanism was very useful such as when we needed a boost of adrenaline to help us get away from a dangerous situation. This is does not cause any physical problems from a healthy person, if it is for a short period of time but because our lives are pretty hectic these days, this reaction can stay around a lot longer and cause some serious problems.
The physical symptoms of stress can be different depending on who is suffering from it; there are loads of different symptoms and I’m not going to go through all of them, also if you have one of the symptoms below that does not mean you have stress, the best idea would be to go to your doctor and see what they have to say about your physical symptoms.
Some of the most common physical symptoms of stress are as follows:
• Chest pains or your chest feeling tight.
• Headaches and tension headaches.
• Constipation, Indigestion or diarrhoea.
• Feeling sick or nauseous.
• A loss of appetite.
• Stomach pains or cramps.
• Shaking or shivering.
• Stress or strains in your muscles making them feel tight.
• An increase of sweating.
If you’re suffering from more than one of the common physical symptoms of stress above then you most likely have excessive levels of stress. And you should seek professional help straight away do not under estimate the seriousness of this disorder and don’t just put if off because the longer you leave it the greater the chance of you having some kind of breakdown or serious health problems are massively increased.
Stress can cause physical health problems because our bodies have not adjusted to our fast paced lives these days; chemicals are released into your body that were only meant to be there for a few minutes at most. For instance if you go for a job interview do you really need your heart beating at a fast rate? No doubt that in the future our body’s will have evolved to be able to cope with simple stresses like these but for the time being you need to take steps to reduce these physical symptoms of stress.
I`ll say it again as this is pretty important, go see your doctor and get some advice, don`t worry I’m sure they will not pump you full of drugs, actually at first they normally just give you some advice or self help techniques on how to reduce your stress levels.
